The 'Darius Miles Report,' Vol. 1 No. 2
I began the ‘Darius Miles Report’ on the ‘Captain’s Blog’ after I watched him perform nicely on the offensive end against the Pistons on Nov. 9th. I asked myself, “What is his deal? Where does he get off?”
I remember watching him in the McDonalds All-America game. He had the “‘I’m Loving It’ Dunk of the Game.” It looked like maybe he could do something. Then, he’s drafted 3rd overall by the Clippers and looks fucking lost for 2 years until he’s traded to Cleveland where he continued to look fucking lost. He improved his offensive output slightly in Portland but remained little more than a guy who turned in a highlight-reel play a night and 29 minutes of borderline-NBA play. This season he is scoring a hell of a lot more.
So what’s his deal? It seems to me he is the same damn player. The difference is he’s logging more minutes and is now the second option on a particularly undynamic Portland team (clearly Nate McM likes him more than Mo did.) He still doesn’t board particularly well. He is way soft. He can make a spectacular defensive play here and there but his overall defense is far from adequate. Last but not least, he hemorrhages balls. He logs nearly 4 turns a night.
Oh, and he can’t shoot free throws either.
Tonight, my friends, is the climax of the ‘Darius Miles Report.’ This is mostly because I will get tired of this idea quickly but it is also because it is Sixers v. Blazers tonight! Turn in at 7 o’clock to find out just how good this dude is.
Here’s the ‘Darius Miles Report,’ Vol. 1 No. 1:
“…has Nate McMillan figured out how to coach Darius Miles? And, more importantly, is Darius Miles actually going to be a decent NBA player? Here I thought his career had peaked with his staring role in 'The Perfect Score.' If he turns out to be a star, I am going to look like an asshole.”
