Sadly fitting that the Flyers lose the lottery and get the #2 pick. To put things into perspective, some recent draft history (snagged from a Flyers board) ...
2006 - Erik Johnson
Jordan Staal
2005 - Sidney Crosby
Bobby Ryan
2004 - Alex Ovechkin
Evgeni Malkin
2003 - Marc Andre Fleury
Eric Staal
2002 - Rick Nash
Kari Lehtonen
2001 - Ilya Kovalchuk
Jason Spezza
2000 - Rick DiPietro
Dany Heatley
1999 - Patrik Stefan
Daniel Sedin
1998 - Vincent Lecavalier
David Legwand
1997 - Joe Thornton
Patrick Marleau
History bodes well for the Flyers, esepcially since there are no Crosby or Ovechkin Jrs. available this year. Also, and much was made of this when the trade went down last year, but how sick is it that San Jose now has the top two 1997 picks on their roster?

That's a nice list though I have no clue who Bobby "Buddy" Ryan is. Is it far to sya that none of those guys are busts or at least have not busted yet?
I've suggested this before but top picks in the NHL draft seem to have a higher success rate when compared to other sports. I should crunch some numbers on this. Baseball is a different animal but the NFL and NBA drafts should be nice for a comparison.
Well, I'd say Patrik Stefan is a bust.
Of the #2 picks, I think Legwand is the only "bust" and even that is borderline. He could still blossom into a very nice second line center. People unfairly compare him to Vinny The Calves because of their proximity in the draft.
We can't say much about Erik Johnson or Bobby Ryan yet. Bobby Ryan is actually from Cherry Hill (my brother even played his squad a few times). There was talk that the Flyers might have tried to move up in the draft to snag him - it was unexpected he'd go that high.
I glanced at the NBA drafts and they're all over the place. I was reminded of the Shawn Bradley debacle - holy f.
I figured Stefan might have been a bust. I wrote his name down after I said so I could look him up. I thought I might have spoken too soon. There have been at least 3 very solid busts in the NBA in last 10 years (Jay Williams, Stromile Swift, Mike Kandiman) and 2 which are damn close (Darko and Kwame Brown.) You could probably make a case that Keith Van Horn was a bust as well.
